Virginia Violet Rahrer, 94, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Virginia was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Tegtmeyer) Niswonger.
On September 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, James Rahrer, and together they shared 74 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, devotion, and family until his passing in 2023.
Virginia worked for Adams and Forest Park Elementary Schools in their library departments for many years, where her quiet dedication were appreciated by both students and staff.
She lived a simple, generous life and found her greatest happiness in caring for those she loved. Virginia treasured her family above all else, and nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Greg (Betty), Mark (Kathy), and Brian (Mimi) Rahrer; grandchildren, Brittany (Nick) Goodwin, Brett (Linsey) Rahrer, Rebecca (Ryan) St. Wrba, Kaitlyn (Ryan) Hessler, and James (Karlie) Rahrer; and great-grandchildren, Crew and Cade Goodwin, Ryder and Kollins Hessler, James Rahrer, and Hadley, with one more on the way.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Rahrer; and her siblings, Joseph Niswonger, Beverly Linn, Barbara Hamblin, and Karen Pennycoff.
She will be remembered for her giving heart, and the deep love she had for her family.
Service will be 11 am, Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Concordia Cemetery Gardens Chapel, with calling one hour prior. Memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children.
