Virginia May Quance, 96, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023. Born in Milan Center, Indiana, on March 30, 1927, Virginia was the daughter of the late Everett Giles and Helen Eugenia (Spindler) Hutker. Virginia married the love of her life Raymond P. Quance on October 19, 1946 and they enjoyed 75 years of marriage together. Raymond preceded her in death in 2021. Virginia graduated from Decatur High School in 1945 and completed a year of Nursing school at Ball State. She worked in restaurants while Ray completed his teaching degree from Purdue. Virginia was a hard-working Home-Maker for many years. In addition to cooking, cleaning and child care Virginia was very adept at gardening, composting, canning, freezing, sewing, tailoring, knitting, embroidery, and daily reading to her 5 children. Virginia worked as Attendance Secretary for Elmhurst High and other FWCSs schools. From the 1990s until 2016 Virginia was a faithful volunteer for the Allen County Public Library at Coventry. She was a Member at Waynedale United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. All her life Ginny has been the perfect example of; "Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Or do without!" How fortunate were those who learned from her.
Surviving are her children, Steven (Sandy) Quance, Sue (Jim) Dowling and Carol (Doug) Ford; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Judy Quance along with many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Quance (1998) and Dennis Quance (2023).
Memorial service is 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825) with visitation starting two hours prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Place Community Church or Stillwater Hospice.
