Valerie was born in Anderson, Indiana, to the late

Mattie Jean Wills
. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents,
John and Beatrice Lewis
, and her goddaughter,
Daejanara Brooks
.
Valerie was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a woman of deep faith in God and was passionate about helping women, children, and survivors of domestic violence. Valerie was unapologetically herself—outspoken, strong, and compassionate—and she used her voice to uplift others in need.
