Troy Gillum, a proud and devoted patriot, passed away at 61 on Thursday, December 18, 2024, in Fort Wayne. He was born in Columbia City, IN. Troy leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love. As a charter life member of the Marine Corps League Pride and Purpose Detachment, he served as a Past Commandant, District Vice Commandant and Military Order of Devil Dogs Dog Robber. He also proudly served as a Trustee at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 857. Troy dedicated over two decades of his life to serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and retired as a GySgt. A man of deep Christian faith, he was a committed member of Blackhawk Ministries, where his devotion to his community and spiritual life was evident. After his military service, Troy worked with Pepsi for 15 years, building meaningful connections and a strong work ethic. In his free time, he found joy in woodworking and golfing, hobbies that reflected his creativity and love for the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Troy is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Alena Gillum; two sons, Troy Anthony Gillum and Christian (Hana) Barnett; parents, Bobby Gillum and Bonita Gillum; sister, Kim Gallion, brother, Scott (Holly) Gillum; many nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law, Lizzie A. Porter. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Waco C. Porter, Jr. A public visitation will take place from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a break for family in between on Friday, December 27, 2024, at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street). A funeral service will take place the following day at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Blackhawk Ministries (7400 E. State Blvd.) with calling from 10 am until the service. A private burial will take place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.
