Obituary

Tommy Lee Shears, 73, passed away peacefully at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 9th, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Glen E. Shears and Mary C. (McHenry) Shears Tucker.

Tommy graduated from Leo High School in 1970 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a minor in Music from Flagler College in 1976, where he also served as the women's golf coach.

With an extraordinary talent for golf, Tommy's passion for the sport defined much of his life. During his youth, he also showcased his musical talents playing saxophone in a band called "The Castaways." At just 18 years old, he had the distinct honor of caddying for the legendary Arnold Palmer. His own remarkable skill led him to compete on the Ben Hogan Tour, which later became the Nike Tour, a PGA tour league, an achievement he remained proud of throughout his life. He went on to own "The Links Golf Shop," in Sarasota, Florida, sharing his expertise and passion with fellow golf enthusiasts.

For 27 years, Tommy served as the General Sales Manager for Lexus, retiring in 2019 after a distinguished career where his genuine approach and professional excellence earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Tommy's favorite aspect of his career was connecting with people when selling cars, forming relationships that often extended far beyond business transactions.

A devoted sports enthusiast, Tommy could always be found cheering on his beloved Dallas Stars and Dallas Cowboys. He had a special passion for hockey and thoroughly enjoyed watching games at every opportunity.Tommy also treasured weekend outings to the race track, where he created lasting memories with family and friends.

Tommy found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly time spent at the lake and outdoors with his family. These moments, filled with laughter and love, showcased Tommy's deep appreciation for family bonds and natural beauty.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Tara Shears; his children, Angie (Chris) Murphy, Ryan (Faith) Shears, Tommie Shears, and Alexis Shears; three grandchildren; and his extended family who will miss him dearly. Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Terry S. Shears; and his favorite dog and best friend, Jussi.

A visitation celebrating Tommy's life will be held on Saturday April 19th, 2025 from 10:00a.m to 12:00p.m at Pine Hills Church ( 4704 Carroll Road, Fort Wayne, IN)
