Obituary

Timothy (Tim) Paul Hartman, 54, passed away peacefully March 29, 2025.  Tim courageously battled glioblastoma brain cancer for 17 months with undaunted faith, a determined spirit and an incredible sense of humor. Tim's goal from his diagnosis was to live as long as he could for "his girls". Tim is survived by his devoted wife Kimberly (Kim), loving daughters Madison (Colton) Gay, and Mackenzie (Noah) Hartman-Little, his parents Lester and Carol(Wright) Hartman of Decatur, siblings  Cindy (Tim) Beery, Donna (Tal) Bates, and John (Brenda) Hartman, along with many nieces and nephews.

Although Tim's life was cut shorter than many, he packed a lot of wonderful, loving, sometimes messy, complicated, magical moments between that little dash-from the date he was born to when he was called to heaven, of which I can only scratch the surface with these words.

Tim worked for UPS for 35 years, beginning his career as a part time package handler, working his way up to package car driver for many years and finally as a semi driver.  He made many friends along different routes and stops throughout the years.  Tim made it his intension to put a smile on as many faces as he could every day.

Tim and Kim married Nov 20, 1993. To their surprise, 2 years later they would have twins. Tim was a very proud dad, and took an active roll in raising his "ladies".  Madison and Mackenzie spent many years helping Tim build 2 homes, one in 2000 and one in 2006.  The girls enjoyed hanging out with their dad and grandpa, using a hammer, drill, saws and any other tools they could convince him to let them try. Tim was always willing to dive into a new project. If Kim could dream it up, Tim was capable an willing to accommodate her ideas. He was a very talented, resourceful and skilled man.

Tim enjoyed learning new things and traveling whenever he could. Along with many short trips to Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, St Lois, Ohio, Tennessee and Chicago, he planned amazing trips to California and Hawaii for special anniversaries. He enjoyed trying new foods and was always up for new experiences and adventures.

Tim had many hobbies and passions throughout his short life.  In his younger years, he would do small projects or build small pieces of furniture for people who asked. He then spent many years going to auctions and garage sales looking for things to sell on eBay.  He was very successful and had a great eye. Tim was also an avid gardener, perfecting his own method of starting seeds. At the last home he built, he designed a seed starting system in the basement and built a large raised bed garden and irrigation system.  It was common for his tomato plants to reach over 6 feet tall. He had to build custom cages to accommodate them.

Tim also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took an annual trip with his dad, brother and friends to Canada to go fishing.  He would also take the occasional trip with friends to local lakes. Tim and his dad also shared the hobby of beekeeping.  Tim had several hives throughout the years and enjoyed learning about these amazing little creatures. His last year of beekeeping, he had enough honey to sell.  He took pride that his hive had done that well.

Tim was very proud to have been able to take part in both of his girls weddings this past summer.  It was a great accomplishment for him to be able to speak and dance at both events.  The love he had for his girls will always remain with them.  Tim left a hole far too big to every be filled, and he will be missed immeasurably.

A celebration of life will be held at Leo Methodist Church 13527 Leo Rd., Leo IN 46765 on May 10th at 11 am with a calling May 9th from 5-7 pm.  Although flowers, gifts and plants are thoughtful, we would truly appreciate anything you would spend on those items instead go to one of the following organizations in Tim's memory: give.abta.org Berlin Marathon in honor of Tim Hartman (please see Facebook or instagram if you need the link), Stillwater Hospice or Cancer Services of NE Indiana.  QR codes will also be provided at the service.
