Obituary

Thomas W. Sappenfield, age 77, of Fort Wayne passed away on August 27, 2021.

He was born August 10, 1944, in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was the only child of Martha (Bacon) (Sappenfield) Vonderau and William C. Sappenfield.

Tom was a graduate of Central High School and a veteran of the United States Army. During his working career; he worked in stain glass, was a railroader, a teamster, and employed in new home construction. Tom was a member of American Legion Post #47 and Southwest Conservation Club.

He treasured nature, all things out-doors, and enjoyed fishing and hunting before COPD and declining health robbed him of this pleasure. Tom loved traveling and he and Carol traveled to 49 states in the US, their favorite provinces in Canada, took trips to Europe and enjoyed cruise-ships. Tom joked that his mode of travel changed as his age changed; from motorcycle, camper-van, train, plane, ship, and finally by SUV/car!

Surviving is his wife and soul-mate of 39 years, Carol D. Sappenfield. Also surviving is his son, Timothy W. Sappenfield of Ft. Wayne, IN, and grandson, William T. Sappenfield of Columbia City, IN. along with a beloved extended family.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Eunice M. Prine and Sally L. Justice, and nephew, Matthew A. Williams.
