Tom
Doty
Aug 29, 1940 — Aug 11, 2026
Fort Wayne
Tom Doty, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026.
Born in Fort Wayne to Frank and Luwilda (Richard) Doty, Tom grew up alongside four step-siblings. In 1959, he proudly joined the United States Marine Corps.
Tom married his first wife, Gloria, in 1962. He is survived by his five children: Kirk (Diane) Doty, Kaylynn Doty-Bolinger, Kari (James) Shockley, Kendra Doty-Wheeler, and Kalisha Doty; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A hardworking man by nature, Tom spent an incredible 60 years driving semi-trucks. Away from the road, he enjoyed an active life filled with the things he loved. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a meticulous eye for carpentry.
Tom also had a special appreciation for the outdoors close to home. He enjoyed landscaping and took great pleasure in watching and attracting birds to his backyard, creating a place where he could observe and enjoy nature.
For several years, Tom played travel volleyball with the Fort Wayne Men’s YMCA Volleyball Club, combining friendly competition with his love of camaraderie and the game.
In 2007, Tom married Berta Detmers, beginning a new chapter of his life together. Together, they became active and involved members of Fellowship Missionary Church and Broadway Christian Church. His faith and relationships within the church community became an important part of his life. Tom passed away 13 hours after Berta.
Tom will be remembered as a hardworking, talented, outdoors-loving man who took pride in what he could accomplish with his own hands and never stopped finding things to enjoy in the world around him. His life touched many people, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and church community.
