Thomas “Tom” Gregory Bastress, 71, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on February 5, 1955. Tom, along with his father and brothers, owned and operated Automotive and Industrial Supply (operating as Napa Auto Parts) for over 50 years until his retirement. Tom found joy in spending time with the people he loved most. He especially loved spending time with his whole family at Clear Lake and enjoying the flowers at Lakeside Park. Tom had a deep love for flying, airplanes, and being a private pilot. He also enjoyed model trains, antiques, and art. He loved watching NASCAR, especially following Napa Drivers. Above all, Tom’s greatest joy was being “Papaw” to his grandchildren, who brought endless happiness and pride to his life. He will be remembered for his caring heart, sense of humor, and the love he had for his family.
Tom is survived by his spouse, Martha Bastress; daughters, Kristen (Mike) Deak, Tracie (Bob) Mrozowski, and Jamie (Nick) Bastress; stepchildren, Rachel Marracino, Melissa Marracino, and Robert Marracino; siblings, Timothy Bastress, Todd Bastress, Cindy Clark, and Candance Cress; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Donovan, Millie Kay, Bryanna, Chelsea, Kyleigh, Owen, Nathan, Elise, Shaylen, Matthew, Skyeler, and Kennedy; two great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen (Hecky) Bastress.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be given to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo
