Theresa "Terry" Maureen Tappy, 71, of Fort Wayne, went Home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 9, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late James and Geraldine (Kerrigan) Butler in Queens, NY. Terry graduated from Queens Vocational High School in 1970. She married Michael Tappy in Queens, NY on November 29, 1970. She worked as a beautician for 20 years and later went on to be a substance abuse counselor for 15 years. They lived on Long Island for 30 years where they raised their two girls in West Islip. In 2008 Terry and Michael moved to Fort Wayne, IN from Long Island.
Terry was a very involved member of her churches both on Long Island and in Fort Wayne. This developed lasting friendships that became like family. Most recently she was a member of First Assembly of God in Fort Wayne. Terry was an avid reader and loved the beach and being by the water. She was proud of her Irish heritage and thrilled when she was able to finally travel there with Michael in 2017. She would often be found attending grandchildren's activities, being at the pool, or coupon clipping and finding good ways to spend her Kohl's cash. Whether it was playing a game of Rummikub, sharing a meal or just relaxing on the deck, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She will be deeply missed by both family and friends near and far and will be remembered for her strong faith in Christ and fighting spirit.
Terry is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Michael Tappy; daughters, Melissa (Casey) Cormany and Dawn (Michael) Robles both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Aidan Robles, Samuel Cormany, Elise Robles, Zachary Cormany, Logan Robles, Liam Cormany, Keira Robles, and Eliana Cormany; siblings, Regina Butler, John (Sigrid) Butler, Walter Butler, William Butler, Anne Ryerson, and Monica Butler; and a host of family and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lynn Butler and Jimmy Butler. She was welcomed Home to eternity by many friends and family.
