Obituary

DOUPLE, Terry Lynn (Martin), 72, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at her home in Ft. Wayne, IN, surrounded by family. Born in Springfield, IL, she was a dedicated homemaker who was actively involved in numerous volunteer endeavors within her community. Her love for her husband Greg, children, and expansive family knew no bounds. Lynn was a pioneer in educational and medical advocacy for not only her children, but for children and special needs adults throughout the Fort Wayne community. Throughout her children's academic journeys, she spent countless hours in their schools volunteering, advocating, and supporting teachers and staff. She was a devoted Allen County Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer for 14 years from 2006-2020, during which time she zealously advocated in court for 25 children suffering from abuse and neglect. Additionally, she served as the court-appointed guardian for two special needs adults, taking on full legal responsibility for their personal affairs, medical care, and financial and legal matters. She was an original member of the Turnstone Ladies' Auxiliary supporting fundraising events for the Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities, where she worked tirelessly on its annual Casino Night and Gala. Lynn established a "Bowling Buddies" league for those with special needs that has been active for 21 years. Together with her husband Greg, she participated in the Fort Wayne Tin Caps Host Family Program for a period of over 20 years, hosting minor league baseball players and providing them with the support of homecooked meals, treat packages for road games, scrapbooks, hugs, and support. Lynn was a proud member of the philanthropic sorority Psi Iota Xi, supporting multiple causes related to art, literature, music, and speech & hearing difficulties through various events and fundraising activities. She was an original member of the Board of Directors for the CASS Housing non-profit, which provides affordable housing for special needs adults as an alternative to government-provided housing. Her working career included time as a civilian Russian typist for the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH; a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Fairborn, Ohio; and as an administrative assistant at ResCare Community Living in Ft. Wayne, IN.
In her free time, Lynn enjoyed church services at Covenant United Methodist Church; scrapbooking; gardening; visits to Walt Disney World; attending TinCaps baseball and Komet hockey games; trips to Phoenix, AZ for Spring Training, traveling with family and friends; and boxing with her comrades at Rock Steady Boxing of Northeast Indiana.
She is survived by: Gregory S. Douple, her beloved husband of 52 magical years; daughter Brittany (Andrew) Feiner of Centerville, OH; son Jason (Theresa) Douple of Carrollton, TX; and son Ryan Douple of Ft. Wayne, IN; grandchildren Mark and Caroline Feiner and Cameron and Fiona Douple; sister Deborah (Larry) Wright of Pottsboro, TX; brother Timothy (Susan) Martin of Clinton, MS; sister Jennifer (John) King of Rochester, IL; sister Constance (Jim) Godfrey of Rochester, IL; brother Stephen (Becca) Martin of Carrollton, TX; and a cherished multitude of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John "Jack" Martin and Constance Rohrer; sister Jacqueline Baumhardt; and nephews Patrick Wright and Dustin Hemphill. She was a devoted and loving friend to many.
