Obituary

Tameka Lashae McGraw age 49, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born on May 28, 1977, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Lucius and Jeanette Bearfield. As a little girl she was happy and active, and she loved people- traits that she carried throughout her entire life. Tameka graduated from Snyder High School in Fort Wayne Indiana. Some years later as an adult, she went back to school, where she completed college courses and graduated.

For over 25 years she worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools in various capacities, where she was valued and appreciated. She loved her job because it offered her the daily opportunity to interact with young people. She had great relationships with the students and teachers, cheerfully greeting them every day.

Tameka made the firm decision to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the age of 11, and she remained a faithful member throughout her life. She loved telling others about the good news of God's Kingdom. As her health declined, she continued her efforts to preach by writing letters which were organized by her local congregation- the Maumee River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Tameka always had her Bible, tablet, and letter writing materials by her bedside in the hospital. She was also an avid pen collector and loved coloring, which she turned into framed gifts for family and friends. She also recently took up the hobby of making beautiful flower arrangements. Tameka was especially generous with her grandchildren- to whom she loved giving gifts.

Tameka (affectionately known as 'Meek the Greek' by some of her family and closest friends) was a devoted and loving Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Cousin, and Friend. She is survived by her daughter Bailey (Davonte), her sister Joyce (Gary), Grandchildren Armon Bearfield, Naomi Williams, and Davonte Williams Jr. Nephew-Gerren (Mia), and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucius and Jeanette Bearfield.

Anyone who met her loved her. Strength, resilience, positivity, and strong faith- even while experiencing many difficulties in her life made her an amazing person to be around. She was loyal and kindhearted to her family and friends. She always could make you laugh; even complete strangers found this to be true. She was incredibly lovable and funny. During her numerous hospital stays, the staff and everyone who cared for her dearly loved her. She never complained, and despite her dire situation- she never lashed out.

Her faith was absolute, proven not by just words, but by her actions. She faced death without fear, holding fast to the absolute certainty that she will live again, secure in God's promise of eternal life in a paradise earth soon to come. Thus, after spending even a small amount of time with her, you felt her strength, which made you want to be as strong and positive as she was. Everyone who met her loved her. It is the greatest of understatements that she will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on August 29, 2026, at 3:00pm (video presentation begins at 2:30pm).
