Sue
Plumley
Oct 2, 1931 — Jun 10, 2026
Sue Plumley, 94, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026. Sue was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Sue was born October 2, 1931, to the late Louis K. and Margaret Eithel (Longanecker) Sowers of Convoy, OH. She graduated from Convoy High School in 1950. On January 29, 1955, she married Chalmer Ray Plumley of Decatur, IN. They were married for 71 years and had two children, Sandra and David.
She is survived by her husband, Chalmer “Chal” R. Plumley; their two children, Sandra (Tim) Pieri, and David (Paula) Plumley; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Neha) Feipel, Lauren Pieri, Alexandria (Nick) Dykhuizen, Jennifer (Nick) Carlin, Stephanie Feipel, Amber Plumley, and Courtney Plumley; and eleven great-grandchildren, Thomas Dykhuizen, Lucas Dykhuizen, Lila Carlin, Theo Feipel, Olivia Carlin, Jack Dykhuizen, Mila Feipel, Myles Carlin, Aurora Plumley, Vincent Plumley, and Stella Carlin.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and all six of her siblings, Janet (Sowers) Poling Ray, Richard Sowers, Gordon Sowers, Darrell Sowers, Robert Sowers, and John Sowers.
Her legacy of great love and hard work will live on with everyone who loves her. Spending time with her family was her favorite way to share her love. Her spirit and intentions were always present, and she will be forever remembered for her love and devotion to her family. She was such a vibrant and strong presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. There was never any doubt that when Sue arrived, she came ready to lend a hand – tidying up, preparing a delicious meal, and making sure everyone around her felt cared for. She found joy in the simple moments, especially gathering around the table to play cards or a fun game and sharing so much laughter. Sue and Chal were a constant presence at ball games and school events. Whenever their grandchildren looked up, they could count on seeing their grandparents in the bleachers, cheering them on with pride. Sue was also a talented seamstress and took pride in her beautiful flower gardens.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Park Place Senior Living, Luminary Hospice and Home Instead. Some of her caregivers gave her an endearing nickname of “Sweet and Spicy Sue” describing her personality perfectly.
Sue and Chal were always avid and loyal Indiana University basketball and football fans. Sue generously donated her body to the Indiana University School of Medicine Anatomical Education Program. This gift will contribute significantly to the advancement of health science education in the state of Indiana.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:30 – 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Park Place Senior Living, 4411 Park Place Dr, Fort Wayne, IN 46845, with a memorial service immediately following at the same location.
