Steven E. "Steve" McElhoe, 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, October 27, 2025. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Steve was the son of the late Harold and Georgianna (Hansen) McElhoe.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from North Side High School and later earned his associate degree from Ivy Tech. Steve dedicated 33 years to the banking industry as a senior mortgage loan officer—a career he truly loved because it allowed him to help others achieve the dream of homeownership.
Never one to sit still, Steve was always tinkering, mowing the lawn, or relaxing in his man cave with good music. A devoted fan of Notre Dame, his love for music and sports was second only to his deep love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cathy McElhoe; children Shayne McElhoe, Christine "Chrissy" McElhoe, and Holly McElhoe; grandchildren Dylan McElhoe, Haley McElhoe, Keiona (Enrique) Corona, Cameron Summers, and Grace McElhoe; brothers David (Kathy) Becker and Danny Becker; and sister Darlene (Paul) Buckel. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Teeters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life for Steve will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Military Honors will immediately follow the service. All services will be held at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.
