Steven Randolph Glock, 87, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28. Steve ("Doc") was born in Indianapolis in 1936, to the late Dr. Wayne and Blanche Glock and was the oldest of their five children. Steve graduated from Northside High School class of 1955, where he dated and later married his beloved high school sweetheart, Joyce Sharpe. Steve graduated from Earlham College in 1959 and later attended Indiana University's School of Medicine. After completing his orthopedic residency, Steve and Joyce moved to Fort Wayne where Steve joined OrthoNorthEast (ONE) as a co-founder. Steve, with his medical partner and close friend, Dr. John Lee, performed Indiana's first hip-replacement surgery. Steve's knowledge, talent, kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine interest in his patients, their families, nurses, medical staff, and fellow physicians, made him an invaluable member of our medical community for over 30 years.
Steve and Joyce changed the way we view and treat mental illness in our community. They were instrumental in the formation of the Fort Wayne Carriage House where they served as founding board members. "In more ways than I can count, Steve was the patriarch of the Carriage House family. He was a mentor, a gentleman, a counselor, and a friend. We are here because they were here first and showed us the way," said Andy Wilson, Executive Director of the Carriage House. Steve was also the recipient of the National Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service in Washington, D.C.
Steve loved life. Every day was an adventure. He loved his family, friends, fishing, IU Basketball, tinkering in the garage, wood working, and playing the harmonica. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, warm smile, orneriness, and quick wit.
Steve is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Witmer Hobbs; sister, Judy (David) Schele; brother, Jim (Judy) Glock; daughter, Brenda (Scott) Gerber Vincent; son, Jeff (Deb) Glock; seven grandchildren, and eight great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his son, Chad; and brothers Allen and Doug Glock. Funeral services for Steve will take place on June 1, 2024, at 5pm, with calling one hour prior at FairHaven Funeral Home, with calling on May 31, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at the funeral home.
