Obituary

Stephen Robert Myers passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at the age of 73 surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born on October 7th, 1952 in Hicksville, OH to the late Kenneth and Helen Myers.
Steve graduated from North Side High School in 1970, attended IPFW, then served in the National Guard from 1971 through 1977.
Steve spent his career as a computer programmer spanning over 40 years with Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire, Tokheim, and Do-it-Best Corp, which is where he retired from in 2019. Steve was a hard worker with a playful spirit, always finding opportunities to play pranks and make his co-workers laugh, which is what made him so memorable to all those who knew him.
Steve also had his favorite watering holes where he could be found telling stories and making many new friends as Steve never knew a stranger.
Steve loved his sports teams with the Chicago Bears being his favorite. No matter how they were performing he was a die-hard fan. He was also an avid IU fan, and that of course was due to the many wonderful years he spent visiting his daughter Molly while she attended school there. More time was spent tailgating than at the games, but lots of great memories were made.
Steve and his wife Sherill loved to travel when they could, and the majority of their travels were spent with good friends at their time share in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
After Steve’s retirement, he and his wife moved permanently to Hamilton Lake, a lifelong dream of his. At their home on the lake is where Steve was his happiest, spending time with his kids, grandkids, wonderful neighbors who became lifelong friends, and many other extended family and friends. Steve loved his “lake life” which included boat rides, camp fires, and nightly sunsets.
Steve would always say, “I don’t need any gifts. The only thing I need is my loved ones around me. That is what makes me happy.” That is how he tried to live his life: spending time with those he loved.
Steve is survived by wife Sherill, sons Ryan (Theresa) Myers, Eric Myers, daughter, Molly (Tony) Davidson, sisters Nancy Kinney and Ann (John) Butler and six grandchildren. Preceded in death are his parents, step-mother, Phyllis Myers, and sister, Carol Buchanan.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10th from 1-5 PM at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to: Hamilton Volunteer Fire and EMT Department, 7760 Wayne Street, Hamilton, Indiana 46742, and Indiana University Alumni Association, 1000 E. 17th Street, Bloomington, Indiana 47408.
