Obituary

Stanley Robert “Stan” Gorom, Jr., 84, died peacefully, proceeding to his eternal home on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Fort Wayne. Born in Bryan, Ohio, Stan was the son of the late Stanley Robert Gorom, Sr. and Martha Marie (Lovetinsky) Gorom.
Stan graduated from Bryan High School, where he lettered in baseball and basketball, and later attended The Ohio State University and earned his associate degree in accounting from IPFW. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Easler, on September 22, 1962, and together they shared 63 years of a strong, faithful, and loving marriage—one that remains a model for their children and grandchildren. Stan proposed to Carolyn on April 22, his birthday is June 22 – see a pattern? He wanted to be sure he never forgot the important dates.
Stan was a computer programmer during the dawn of the computer age and worked for International Harvester and GTE eventually moving to finance and spending 29 years with the Do It Best Corporation, where he built many lasting friendships. After his retirement, he continued working with Omni Source and Wabash Alloys. After his second retirement, he spent 9 years volunteering and then working for the American Red Cross, delivering blood in the tri-state area. Serving others wasn’t just something Stan did—it was who he was. Always willing to “give the shirt off his back” defined Stan. His was a life defined by warm humor and the Golden Rule.
He poured his heart into volunteering and supporting organizations he believed in. As a devoted member of Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, Stan lived out his faith through kindness, dependability, and a willingness to help wherever he was needed. He loved sports of all kinds and was an avid IU fan. Stan was a fun competitor, especially playing softball, ping pong, euchre, pinochle or really any game. Stan loved traveling especially with Carolyn, and treasured every moment spent with his family. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and his pride in them was unmistakable. He loved taking them on day trips exploring nature and spending time with them. Having been raised on a farm until high school, he loved taking his grandchildren anywhere that showed farm life.
Stan is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gorom; children, Stanley Robert (Diane) Gorom III and Denise (Matt) Schwaberow; and grandchildren, Ben (Danielle) Schwaberow, Victoria, Olivia, and Chelsea Gorom.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Elwood Gorom and his nephew and niece Elwood and Roxanne Gorom.
A Celebration of Stan’s Life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren.
