Obituary

Spencerville, Indiana, Simon "Jim" Cletus Wagler, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Parkview Regional Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On April 21, 1936, Simon was born in Daviess County, Indiana, to William and Mary (Yoder) Wagler. Simon married Martha Viola Steury on November 26, 1965.

Simon now resides with Jesus in heaven, rejoicing with those that arrived before and looking forward to welcoming those of us to follow. He was a kind, joyful, peaceful, and generous man, who was full of wisdom, creativity, and an amazing sense of humor — always willing to lend a helping hand. By trade, he cofounded three businesses within the custom cabinetry industry that supported many individuals and their families. Simon was a natural problem solver, whether it be people issues or engineering conundrums. By hobby, he was a farmer and "expert tinkerer." He could fix anything. He loved exploring the world, adventuring, learning new things, fishing, and taking pictures of God's creatures and sunsets. Simon was a strong man of God with a steady heart for Jesus, a faithful husband, a loving dad and grandpa, and a friend to many.

His memory is carried on by his loving wife of 59 years Martha Viola (Steury) Wagler of Leo, Indiana, and children Michelle Renee (Lee) Hershberger of Spencerville, Indiana, Theresa Elizabeth Wagler of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David William Wagler of Harlan, Indiana, and Jonathan Aaron Wagler of Spencerville, Indiana. Simon and Martha also have four grandchildren, Lucas David Wagler, Alijah Simon Wagler, Aiden Alan (Ayanna Flores) Wagler, and Simon Paul Hershberger.

Simon was preceded in death by his siblings, Lena (Monroe) Barkman, Wilmer (Betty) Wagler, Omer Wagler, Mildred (Ora) Delagrange, Catherine (Delbert ) Delagrange, Rose (Amos Jr.) Delagrange, Ray Wagler, Wilbur "Dale" (Doris) Wagler, and twin infant brothers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, between 4.30 pm EST and 8.00 pm EST at Fairhaven Funeral Home located at 6557 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825. A Celebration of Life will be held at Central Ministries Leo Campus (14717 Amstutz Rd., Leo, Indiana, 46765) on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10.00 am EST, with a brief visitation at 9.00 am EST prior to the service.
