Shirley Ann Boroff Koegel Kinder.
March 23, 1941 - July 14, 2026
Shirley Ann Boroff Koegel Kinder, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, in the loving presence of her family. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on March 23, 1941, Shirley was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her 85 years. The daughter of Carl and Hazel Bellis Boroff, Shirley grew up on a farm on Winchester Road, where she learned the value of hard work early on through her dedicated service on a paper route.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Don, Harold, and Larry Boroff, whose memories she cherished deeply. Shirley leaves behind a devoted family who will carry her legacy forward: her daughters Julie Koegel (Clayton), June Koegel (Brenda), Jill Koegel Stewart, and Janet (Dean) Franke. Her grandchildren, Grace and Emma Taylor, Allyson Gallmeier (Jacob Alexander), Jacob and Kyle Renkenberger, Adrianna Stewart, and Cora Waterman, along with her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Carter, and Nora Alexander, and Walter Van Fleteren, were the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Polly (Larry) Boroff and Charlotte (Harold) Boroff, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Shirley's professional life was as vibrant and varied as her personal one. She owned a successful painting company and later worked as a business broker, embodying the entrepreneurial spirit with grace and determination. A woman of faith, Shirley attended Monson Chapel and Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where her presence was a source of warmth and encouragement to her fellow congregants.
Her love for Christmas was unmatched, and she took great pleasure in creating lasting memories for her children and grandchildren during the holiday season. Her witty sense of humor and innate kindness made her an absolute joy to be around, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Shirley found solace in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching birds and squirrels in her garden and spending time with her beloved cats and dogs. Her keen appreciation for nature was a reflection of her gentle soul and compassionate spirit.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on August 9, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 PM, with comments at 3:00 at Lutheran Life Villages, located at 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46816.
Family, friends, and all those whose lives Shirley touched are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman who gave so much of herself to others. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Shirley's memory to a charity of your choice. Shirley's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love she shared and the joy she brought to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
