After a courageous fight for his life, Shane Michael Kever, 48, succumbed to a massive heart attack on September 1, 2023. Fairness was not a consideration in this fight as the world lost a great man much too soon.
Born to Michael Kever and Vicki Kever (Downs) on August 14, 1975, Shane grew up in Woodburn and graduated from Woodlan High School in 1994. Although his life was cut short, Shane was able to amass many accomplishments and achievements within his work and his personal life. Shane was a successful entrepreneur in multiple areas of the housing market. He provided the community with quality remodeled homes, and he also delivered years of unprecedented service in the mortgage and loan industry as co-owner of VSI Home Lending. Shane loved the joy he brought to many as he guided them through one of the greatest moments of their lives: becoming a homeowner.
Shane had many other passions outside his professional life. A few of these included driving fast cars, spending time with friends and family, watching a Steelers game, donating to charity, and talking to people of all walks of life. He had a strong presence in the car community and was a beloved member of the Fort Wayne Driving Club. One of his greatest talents was his ability to quickly build genuine connections with everyone. Shane had a gift for finding common ground with anyone with whom he came in contact, making it impossible for anyone to remain a stranger. Although Shane was never the loudest person in the room, his warmth and positive energy were felt by all.
Of all his passions, his greatest was his love for family and friends. He had a never-ending adoration for his wife of 22 years, April (née Bradtmiller), and there was no role he took more seriously or honorably than that of father to his son, Aiden, and daughter, Grace. In addition to his parents, Shane is survived by his grandmother, Emmalyn Downs; his brothers, Mark (Andrea), Ryan, and Cody (Alicia); his aunt, Wendy Downs; his parents-in-law, Denny and Betti Bradtmiller; his sister-in-law, Brandi Asher (Jeremy); his brother-in-law, Josh Bradtmiller (Allyson); and his "Peeps." He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Downs; and his grandmother-in-law, Helen Krebs.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, at Pine Hills Church at 4704 Carroll Road with visitation one hour earlier. Visitation is also from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 8, at Pine Hills Church.
Please join family and friends as they celebrate the life of Shane and say goodbye to an extraordinary father, husband, son, brother, and friend.
