Scott Lee Ellenberger, 67, passed away on October 4, 2026, in Huntington, Indiana. He was born in Decatur, Indiana, to the late Robert and Katherine Ellenberger.
Scott grew up in Berne and graduated from South Adams High School. He spent much of his working life at Innovative Packaging Corporation in Huntington, where he worked in maintenance before recently retiring.
Scott will be remembered for his big smile, his kind heart, and the friendly word he was always ready to share. He also had a style all his own and was never afraid to be himself. His long hair became a signature over the years, fitting a man who tended to march to the beat of his own drum.
Family was important to Scott. He was often the one who planned and hosted larger family gatherings, bringing people together around food, conversation, and time spent with one another. He enjoyed cooking, and many of the photographs he shared over the years reflected the things he cared about most—his children, his cats, and something good being prepared in the kitchen.
For many years, Scott also opened his home and his life to children through the foster care program. Caring for children who needed a home became an important part of his life, and several became a lasting part of his family.
Scott also enjoyed the quieter things in life. He was an avid reader, with horror novels among his favorites, and was perfectly content at home with his cats and a hot cup of coffee nearby. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors soaking up the sunshine.
Scott is survived by his children, Jessica (Tony) Janero, Michael Ellenberger, Nicolas Ellenberger, Kaylee Ellenberger, and Kaelob Ellenberger; his grandchildren, Taylan Terry and Shyla Tomcik; and his siblings, Doug Ellenberger, Nancy Ostheimer, and Brenda Brazill-Bradtmueller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Ellenberger.
Until we meet again in heaven, rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at a later date for close family.
