Sandra R. Shrader, 76, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Hope, IN, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Kingston Care Center. She was born on February 23, 1941 in Monterey, TN to the late Herman B. and Effie M. (Cates) Matheny.

She had hoped to become a nurse but instead began what became her most important calling by becoming a mom at 18. She was unflagging in her dedication and when it became necessary to seek work outside the home, she became a nurse's aide, and later, a qualified medication aide showing the same commitment to those she cared for. Her career spanned over 40 years with her retiring in 2007.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Ginny Shrader of Fort Wayne; grandson, Ryan Shrader of Fort Wayne and daughter, Lisa Shrader of California. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her four brothers and a granddaughter.

Funeral service is 7 PM Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Fairhaven Funeral Home 6557 N. Clinton Street with calling from 6 PM until time of service.

Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, IN.
