Ruth E. Abels, age 94, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in Fort Wayne. She was born June 3, 1929 in Preble, IN to the late Milton and Treva Werling. She met George Abels at a Bledsoe's Beach Lake James dance and later married on October 22, 1950. Ruth worked in childcare for many years and was a member of St. Joseph UMC and the Southside Optimist Club. She enjoyed working the ham and beans booth at the Johnny Appleseed Festival for over 30 years. Ruth is survived by her sons, Gary (Irene), Gregg (Lynda), Glenn, Robert, and Guy (Denise); 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Werling and Jean Werling. Service is 12:00 pm, Monday, October 2, 2023 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N.
