Ron “Papa” Johnson, 88, of Fort Wayne, went to see Jesus on Friday, April 10, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fort Wayne, to the late Cletus Doyle and Gladys (Wasson) Johnson. He was a purchasing agent for over 40 years before retiring from Tokheim. He graduated from North Side High School and was a proud alumnus of Indiana State University. Papa Ron was a joyful, kind-hearted, and gentle soul. His life was a quiet testimony of grace, integrity, and deep-rooted joy with an unwavering faith in Jesus.

He was funny in the most unexpected ways—quirky, messy, and completely himself. Papa had a way of making people smile without even trying. His laughter was contagious, and his joy filled every room, leaving a lasting imprint on everyone lucky enough to know him.

To his grandchildren, he was simply the silliest and most loving Papa imaginable. He loved them with his whole heart, never missing a chance to laugh, play, or create memories they will carry forever.

Though gentle by nature, sports could stir him up. Whether cheering for IU, the Yankees, the Steelers, or the Pirates, he loved the game as much as the joy it brought him.

Papa found happiness in life’s simplest pleasures: the sun on his face, a good book, a bowl of ice cream, sitting quietly on the deck listening to the birds, floating peacefully in the pool, or enjoying music.

His signature mustache was as much a part of him as his warm smile—a familiar and comforting presence to all who knew him.

Above all, Papa showed us how to live—with joy, with gratitude, and with faith. He taught us to celebrate life, to cherish the small moments, and to walk closely with Jesus every day.

Ron is survived by his children, Craig (Brenda) Johnson, Lisa Krugh, and Allison (Nick) Felger; grandchildren, Drew Felger, Zach Felger, Emily Mae Felger, Alex (Abbi) Krugh, Aiden Krugh, Rachel Johnson and Alissa Johnson; beloved dogs, Jack, Jill and Daisy; caregiver, Shanda Hughes; many nieces and nephews, with several that live local, Jeanna Sanfilippo, Malina Bower, and AJ Sanfilippo. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Johnson and sister, Joyce Bowman.

A memorial gathering is 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 4625).
