Richard G. Smith, age 75, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at his home in Fort Wayne surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Glen and Ruth Smith. Richard served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1966-1969 during the Vietnam War. He worked 36 years at Verizon and most recently after retirement he worked with INdigital Telecom for 7 years. Richard was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Melanie Smith of Fort Wayne; daughters, Jodi (Garret) Weirauch of York, PA, and Julie Jakacky of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Lauren and Ashton; and his brother, Kenneth (Diane) Smith of Dekalb, IL. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services are handling the arrangements.
