Obituary

Richard "Dick" Oberlin, 95, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Dick was a son of the late Glenn and Mary "Geneva" (Hagerty) Oberlin.

Dick graduated from Central High School, Class of 1949. He married Ilo Ann Patten on December 18, 1987, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dick enjoyed working at Richard's Bakery in Fort Wayne as a young adult and often spoke fondly of his time there. He retired from Dana Corporation in 1993 after 43 years of service.

Over the years, Dick served as a volunteer firefighter and officer with St. Joseph Township Fire Department. He was an athlete throughout his life, participating in school basketball, intramural softball, and in later years, golfing. He also volunteered as a Little League coach for many summers.

Dick and his wife, Ilo, enjoyed making blankets for the Bashor Children's Home through their church ministry. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and hardworking.  He practiced unconditional love while raising all six children with their mom, Patricia.

Dick moved to Heritage Pointe where he formed countless friendships that he enjoyed for over 15 years.

Surviving are his children, Steven (Dixie) Oberlin of Fishers, Richard Oberlin Jr. of Fort Wayne, Susan (James) Moran, and Sharolyn (Roy) Heffron, both of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Ilo Patten-Oberlin; daughters, Sandra Clark and Linda Taylor; grandson, Joseph Oberlin; and siblings, Don and Jean.
