Richard Charles Cooney, age 77, passed away December 27, 2018 in Fort Wayne. He was born January 21, 1941 in Providence, RI to the late George and Mary Cooney. Richard worked at General Motors for 43 years until his retirement. He served his country in Germany as an electrical engineer with the US Army during the Vietnam War. Richard was an avid gun collector and member of the NRA, a military enthusiast, liked to tinker around the house, take vacations with his beloved wife, and spent lots of time reminiscing on life in Rhode Island. Richard is survived by his two children, Melissa (Derrick) Wildstar and Richard (Sarah) Cooney; and his grandchildren, Austin Cooney and Alexander Cooney. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Cooney; and brother, George "Sonny" Cooney. Service is 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 3, 2018 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St., with calling two hours prior to service beginning at 5:00 pm.
