Phyllis J. Grindle, 87, passed away peacefully in her children's arms on March 25th at her home in Fort Wayne. Born in Huntington, IN, to Ferrol and Cecil (Turner) Joseph, Phyllis grew up in Convoy, OH. While working many years at Teleflex, she also spent 10 years volunteering as an EMT for the Convoy Fire Department.
After retirement, Phyllis was married to Bud Grindle for 20 years. Before he passed away in 2021, they loved spending the winters in Largo, FL, shuffle boarding and playing in the senior games. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, needlepoint and crocheting; however, her true passion was her faith and family!
Phyllis is survived by children, Elaine (Eric Riffle) Schmidt of Indianapolis, David (Trisha Thompson) Schmidt of Fort Wayne, Michelle Davis, Tim (Michele) Grindle, Cheryl (Ken) Richardson, Mary Johnston, and son-in-law Jerry Butler, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Haines of Van Wert, OH, and her large church family. She was preceded in death by daughter Nancy Butler and sister DiAnna Girardot.
A memorial service for Phyllis will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Parkwood Church of God, 3320 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, with calling 1 hour prior. Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery Gardens at a later date. Preferred memorials in Phyllis's honor may be directed to the Parkwood Church of God.
