Philip E. Haberkorn, 75 of Fort Wayne, IN passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026. Phil was born on March 18 and grew up in St. Joe, IN.
Phil attended Eastside High School and then obtained his Telecommunications degree from Indiana University in 1985. Phil began his career early in 1972 at the Fort Wayne News Sentinel as a part time news reporter for four years. He then spent the next 11 years as a staff announcer, News Director and Program Director at WIFF Radio in Auburn before heading off to obtain his degree at IU. Upon returning home from IU, he continued his love of radio and broadcasting by working at WGL Radio and then finally back at WIFF until 1998.
He is proud to have assisted his father, Ted who was the owner and operator of the St. Joe Newspaper, located in the their backyard print shop throughout his childhood. He loved all things baseball and was an avid fan of the Cubs, Bears and Komet hockey. He enjoyed studying the history of his hometown, St. Joe and surrounding areas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Esther (Hauke) Haberkorn, Michael Haberkorn, David Haberkorn. He is survived by his brother Mark Haberkorn (Florida), sister-in-law, Audrey Haberkorn, nephew Erik Haberkorn (Leo), niece Tera Hogan (Fort Wayne) and nephew Kerry Habekorn (Atlanta).
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 25 at 11:00am at Riverside Cemetery, St. Joe Indiana presided over by Rick Stiver with Life Changing Church in Edgerton Ohio.
