Peter Hoyt Johnson, age 78, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Peter was the son of the late Elwood and Barbara Johnson. He pursued his passion for science and engineering, earning his bachelor's degree in both Chemical and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in Massachusetts.
Peter and his family moved to Fort Wayne in December of 1993, where he began a long and fulfilling career with Shambaugh and Sons, dedicating 22 years of service before retiring in 2016.
Outside of work, Peter lived life to the fullest. He was an avid road cyclist, loved cooking and sharing meals with those he cared for, and found peace and joy on the water—especially while sailing. Above all, he cherished his time with his wife of 39 years, his only son, and his three grandchildren, who brought immense pride and happiness to his life.
Surviving are his wife, Pamela Johnson; son, Nathaniel Johnson; grandchildren, Paisley Fields, Eleanor Johnson, and Peter Johnson; siblings, Bruce (Nancy) Johnson, twin sister Karen (Mark) Stott, and Richard (Brenda) Johnson.
A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Til Valhalla Project.
Peter will be remembered for his devotion to family, his adventurous spirit, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him.
