Oscar "Slack" Whitelow Jr. was born at home in Ripley, Tennessee to parents Ruby (Barbee) and O.B. Whitelow on October 26th, 1928. He passed in his home on the 9th of September, 2024 at the age of 95.
Oscar grew up and spent many years of his life in his home state of Tennessee. Eventually, his work brought him to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he met and married Janice Whitelow (Stalter), his wife of 28 years. He is remembered for his humor, hard work, and dedication to his family.
Oscar was predeceased by his parents Ruby and O.B., his eight sisters, nine brothers, as well as his children Emma Snipes, Bobbie Matthews, Dorothy Durr, David Whitelow, Oscar "Mann" Whitelow, and James Whitelow. He is survived by his wife Janice, his brother Robert Hart, and his children Shirley Whitelow, William Whitelow, Clay Whitelow, Wilbert Owens, Rez Owens (Evette), James McDougalds (Juanita), Jerry Stalter, and Alyssa Stalter, as well as multiple generations of grandchildren.
Services for Oscar will be held at the Fairhaven Funeral Home on the 20th of September at 3:00pm, with the calling one hour before. Friends and family are encouraged to come and honor his memory.
