Nicholas "Nick" J. Wilhelm, 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025. He was born in Hillsdale, MI to the late Herbert and Catherine (Warren) Wilhelm on May 29, 1945. When he was a child, his family moved to Ney, OH where they ran the Wilhelm Apple Orchard. He graduated from high school in Farmer, OH and Bowling Green State University. He received his master's degree from Colorado State University.
He taught high school science in Stratton, CO and retired from Jordan Middle School in Burbank, CA. He was an avid birder and gardener. Nick loved nature. He was a member of National Wildlife and the National Audubon Society.
Nick is survived by loving wife of 39 years, Mary Daly; siblings, Chris (Tom) Clark, Paula Oglesby, Mary (Wally) Gardner, Michael (Deidra) Wilhelm, and Frances Wilhelm; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Tom Wilhelm and brother-in-law Glen Oglesby.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation two hours prior at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825).
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Audubon Society or the Nature Conservancy.
