Obituary

After a brief illness Nancy Lou Capper, 92, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully into her Savior’s arms on early Friday morning.

Born in Davenport, Iowa, on September 14, 1933, to James and Charlene Cox, Nancy grew up in DeWitt, Iowa, where she married Richard Capper on August 5, 1955, and they had three children. Nancy was a stay at home mom until her third child went to school. She worked at KartridgePak for many years and retired from Deco Tool. She loved going to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities and spending winters in Florida with her husband. They also traveled to various places throughout the United States. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, dancing, reading, going out to lunch with her friends, walking, and sitting on the front porch talking to people as they walked by. Since most of her grandchildren lived several hours away, she cherished the times they came to visit and loved to throw a get together. She had a great sense of humor, loved to send cards and never missed a birthday or an anniversary.

At 90 years old, she and Richard moved with her daughter to Fort Wayne, IN, to be with their son and his family for her remaining years. Unfortunately in July of last year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time and then died from metastatic cancer. Before that diagnosis, Nancy spent many years taking charge of her chronic kidney disease by disciplining herself in regards to diet.

Nancy was sassy, funny, had an Irish temper, loving and kind. She had many friends of all ages and especially loved to be around young people.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard, of 70 years, her daughter Kris of Ft. Wayne, her son Mark (Christine) of Ft. Wayne, and another son Curt (Carol) of Pekin, IL, her “daughter-in law,” Camille Cady of St. Cloud, MN, her brother Charles (Sandy) Cox of DeWitt, and her sister Diane Simon of Manchester, Iowa. She also leaves behind three sister-in-laws: Corrine Halverson of Long Beach,California, Carole Halbleib of Bend, Oregon, and Julie (Terry) Wulf of DeWitt, a beloved godchild Jan Cox Hartman and a cherished cousin in law Sandy Matthiessen. Left to honor Nancy are the following grandchildren: Melissa (Brad) Fudge of Columbia City, IN; Haviland (Steve) Brick of Greenfield, WI; Benjamin (Brittany), Jonathan (Brooke) both of Fort Wayne and Ryan (Anya) of St. Cloud, MN.

Also, Nancy had 11 great-grandchildren: Mariana and Tierney Brick; Jocelyn, Saben, Penelope, Camden Fudge, Kay, Nolan, Tripp, June, and Myami Capper. Also, she left behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be a private family service on February 27th in Fort Wayne at Brookside Church. Internment of ashes will be at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either National Breast Cancer or Susan G. Komen in memory of Nancy Capper.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law Mark McGuire.

The family wishes to thank Stillwater Hospice for taking such great care of Nancy especially the nurses and Nan in particular.
