Obituary

Milton Ray Ashby passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born in New Castle, Indiana, he was the son of the late William and Doris (Marvin) Ashby.
Milton graduated from New Castle High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1971. He met the love of his life, Barbara Benner, in 1958, and they were married on June 17, 1961, in Fort Wayne, beginning a lifetime of love and partnership.
A faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church, Milton found joy in serving others alongside very special friends, singing in the choir, and participating in Faith Seekers. Over the years, he worked for Magnavox, Industra Products, Sprunger Tool, LH Carbide, Ransburg, and others before helping form Ramcorp.
Milton had many interests and passions, but none meant more to him than his family. He cherished time with his children and grandchildren and took great joy in simply being together. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, playing tennis, hiking, and painting. He also appreciated the community and support of Rock Steady Boxing. One of his greatest joys was sailing on Lake Michigan. For more than 60 years, he and his family spent time in Birchwood, creating countless memories enjoying the beauty and peace of this magical place.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, David (Leslie) Ashby, Laura (Donald) Prior, and Amy (Joe Schubert) Shepherd; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three great-granddaughters.
Milton was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Ashby.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 6557 N. Clinton Street.
