Michael J. Harris, 79, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday January 29th 2026. Michael was the first born child to the late John Jacob Harris and Helen Harris. He graduated from Northside High School class of 1965. He then went on to study electronics in Louisville, Ky. After working for a short time he entered the draft into the US Army where he served at Ft Bliss, in El Paso, Texas. He earned a bachelor degree in supervision from IPFW. Michael spent more than 35 years with GTE before taking a job with Centennial Wireless from which he retired in 2008. Michael enjoyed cars, woodworking, racing (Indy and Nascar), Purdue basketball, and golf. He was always ready to help family with home projects and could fix just about anything.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betsy Harris; his children, Nicole Harris, and Jeffrey Harris; siblings, Philip (Monica) Harris, Candace (Robert) Bohlender, Thomas (Barbara) Harris, Timothy (Joanna) Harris, Julie (Michael Peters) McCammon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Harris, James Harris, Steven Harris, and John Harris.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at McMillen Family Pavilion at Franke Park, 1750 Goshen Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46808. On Sunday July 26, 2026 from 2pm-5pm.
