Michael Edward Hughes, of Ft. Wayne, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 21st after an extended illness. He was born on November 23, 1942 in Carroll County, KY, the son of Arthur (Eke) and Nancy (Hoskins) Hughes.

He was a graduate of Carroll County High School and attended the University of Kentucky until he entered the management program with Sears, Roebuck and Company. He had a long career with Sears, which brought him to Lima, OH and then Ft. Wayne, IN. Together he and Phyllis enjoyed spending time with family, eating their way thru the many festivals in Ft. Wayne and vacationing on Folly Beach SC.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Adams) Hughes of Ft. Wayne, IN, his children Michele Heeter and husband Dan, of Huger, SC and Guy Hughes and wife Maggie, of Lexington, KY and his grandchildren Nicholas Heeter of Denver, Colorado, Alexandra Heeter of Cleveland, Ohio and Delaney Hughes of Lexington, Kentucky. He is also survived by his sister, Hollace Yowler, her husband Robert, niece Rebecca Yowler and nephew Jeremy Yowler. In addition he is survived by his many cousins and family including his regular Folly Beach vacationers, cousins Sam Burgess, Gwen and Benetta Knight, and Linda Brown.

A celebration of his life will be held in Carrollton, KY, on Sunday, August 29th from 1:30 to 4:00 at General Butler Lodge mezzanine. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice.
