Obituary

Matthew (Matt) L. Robinette, 38, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2026. He is the son of Jeff and Cindy Robinette. He was a devoted husband, son, educator, and friend.
Matt grew up attending Mary Bryan Elementary, Southport Middle School, and graduated Southport High School in 2006, and he was very involved in planning for their 20th reunion. He completed his undergrad in management in 2011 at University of Indianapolis and then received his secondary education degree in 2020 at Anderson University.
When Matt was in high school, he worked at Chick-fil-a for five years. He later worked at the U of Indy Student Center. After he graduated from college he worked at ESG as concert security. He then started working with high school students as an instructional aide at Southport High School, while also caring for kids in youth ministry at Mount Auburn Church. He then started working as a teacher at Bishop Dwenger High School in the Business Department, where he taught personal finance and marketing classes.
Matt married the love of his life, Laura (Renzelmann) on June 20, 2020.
Matt was an avid sports fan. He was a huge fan of IU, Notre Dame, Pacers, Colts, and especially his beloved Reds. He collected action figures and comic books and enjoyed watching movies, especially Marvel and DC. Some of his favorite memories include traveling to many National Parks with Laura. One of his favorite places to travel was the Grand Canyon. He also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He attended many concerts in his life and had a lot of fun going to hard rock and metal concerts.
He was a man of strong faith who was baptized at Community Church of Greenwood in May of 1995. He belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven where he was an active member, attending evening Bible classes.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Laura Robinette; mother, Cindy Robinette; maternal grandfather, Robert Hamilton; father and mother-in-law, Gene and Janet Renzelmann; brother-in-law, Joe Renzelmann; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Robinette; maternal grandmother, Edie Hamilton; paternal grandfather, Elmer Robinette; and paternal grandmother, Pauline Robinette.
A public visitation will take place on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Emanuel Lutheran Church (800 Green Street, New Haven, IN 46774) from 3-5, and 6-8 pm with an hour break for the family from 5-6 pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 10:30 am, located at Emanuel Lutheran Church with visitation prior to the service starting at 9 am. A burial will take place following the service at Emanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bishop Dwenger High School and Central Lutheran School.
