Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce that Mary Ann Buisman has passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday June 25, 2025, at the age of 71 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mary Ann was a devoted mother, a kind soul and a remarkable woman who left an impression on the lives of all who know her.

Mary Ann was born on May 29, 1954, and raised in Rochester, New York. She was deeply passionate about her family — a love that shaped everything she did. Known for her determined spirit and steadfast heart, Mary Ann faced life's challenges head-on, always with a spark of resilience and fierce loyalty. She was always a true Mama Bear when it came to her children.

Mary Ann's heart belonged to her family. Her 3 sons were the center of her world, her unwavering love and guidance shaped their lives and her presence in theirs was a steady light.  Surviving are her sons, Brian (Carrie) Buisman, Dave (Cathie Coppola) Buisman, Tim Buisman and she cherished her grandchildren, Paul (26), Emma (22), and Quinn (14) with all her heart. She was a proud aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and loved time spent with her siblings – sister Laurie Kapetanakis, and brothers Doug, Dan, and John Joensen.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey and Paul Joensen, and her brother, Paul Joensen Jr.

A true free spirit and hippy at heart, Mary Ann carried a lifelong love of The Beatles and often lived by the simple truth in their lyrics: "All you need is love." She also had a special place in her heart for dogs, especially her soulmate Jessie — believing dog snuggles were way better than hugs.

She found great joy and peace by the beach at Fenwick Island, DE, and it is there where her ashes will be scattered, returning her to the waves and shores she loved so dearly. Mary Ann's memory will be held dear by all who loved her. Her strength and love will never be forgotten.

A service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street, with calling from 12 pm until the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you cherish your loved ones and hold them close, and spread Peace, Love, and Happiness – just as Mary Ann always did.
