Martin Gerald Blessing (Marty) went home to be with his Lord the morning of Tuesday, November 19th, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Michele and son Brian (Bianca) of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Rainer (Tammy) Blessing of Tega Kay, South Carolina; and Ralph (Beth) Blessing of Indianapolis, Indiana; in-laws Tom and Judy Wiese of Lima, Ohio and Rachel Shafer of Painesville, Ohio; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was proceeded in death by his first wife Sue (Seemann) of Fort Wayne, in 1990 and his parents Heinz and Edith Blessing of Tega Kay, South Carolina. Marty was a long-term member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served numerous officer and elder positions, and sang bass with the Peace Parish Choir. In 2014-15, he was instrumental in launching Peace's Sharing Peace Café. An enthusiastic model train hobbyist (and especially Marklin trains), he was an active member of the European Train Enthusiasts, Great Lakes Chapter. Marty and Michele loved travelling and spending time with family and friends. Marty was a retired mechanical engineer (Purdue, '79) and was employed by both Navistar and Dana corporations, achieving multiple patents. Most recently, Marty and Michele have enjoyed the love of their furry, rascally cat Mocha, whom they adopted during the long dreary days of Covid (instead of pursuing their planned travels). A public visitation will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 4-6 pm at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street). A funeral service will take place the following day on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church (4900 Fairfield Ave.) at 11 am, with calling one hour prior in the church cafe, starting at 10:00 until service time. A burial will take place following the service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorials may be made to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church with checks made out to Peace, Lutheran South Unity School with checks made out to LSUS or Cancer Services of NE Indiana with checks made out to CSNI.
