Obituary

Marion Amick, age 91, passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 18, 2026, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Born on January 8, 1935, in Columbus, Indiana, Marion was the son of the late Helen and Marion Amick. A lifelong learner with a sharp mind, Marion graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Wabash College, where he joined the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He started his career as a teacher in New Salem, IN, where he met Virginia, and then dedicated over 30 years of his professional life to Lincoln National Life Insurance.
Faith was central to Marion’s life. He and his wife, Virginia, were active members of Waynedale United Methodist Church, where the community and fellowship gave him great purpose. Outside of work and church, Marion was a quintessential sports enthusiast. He was an avid golfer as a young adult, and he was passionate about watching Indiana basketball. Marion also enjoyed fishing, and he and Virginia spent extensive time on a bass boat at Shakamak State Park in Jasonville, Indiana.
To his family and friends, Marion was the epitome of a gentleman, a man of quiet strength, impeccable character, and a heart that was always open to those he loved. A devoted husband and father, he spent decades "showing up." He was a constant in stands and audiences at countless sporting events, band performances, and milestone events to show his unwavering support for his children. He led by example, teaching his children and grandchildren the values of loyalty, kindness, and consistently being there for the people who matter most. He also had a keen sense of humor, which he kept throughout his many health challenges and right up to the end.
The absence of Marion’s presence, his encouraging smile, and his gentle spirit leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, not just for the big moments he celebrated, but for the quiet, everyday kindness and love he offered so freely.
Marion’s legacy is carried on by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Amick, and his four children, Susan (Frank) Silva, Steve (Lisa) Amick, Sharon (Carl) Isaacson, and Scott (Jamie) Amick. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Alexandra (Aaron) Cooper, Nicholas Amick, Sophie Amick, Sydni Amick, and Jordan Isaacson, and his great-grandchildren, Theodore Cooper, and soon-to-be-born Benjamin Cooper. Marion was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Mary Simmons and Marjorie Stevens, and is survived by his beloved sister, Jeanie Sipe.
A service to celebrate Marion’s life will be held on June 13, 2026, at Waynedale United Methodist Church. Further information will be shared by the family once arrangements are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Friends of Shakamak to honor Marion’s life. The mission of the Friends of Shakamak is to develop and support projects and events to help. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
