Obituary

Marianthi Mangos passed away Monday, December 18, 2023 surrounded by family, after a brave battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. She was born in 1937 in Visheni, Greece to Boris and Stefanka Borshoff. When she was nine years old, Marianthi and her older brother, Tom, were taken from war-stricken Greece, and moved to an orphanage in Hungary, where they remained until they were reunitedwith their mother and sister, Helen, in Canada in 1957. That same year, she traveled to Fort Wayne to visit her Uncle John and Teta Tina, and they set her up on a date with George Mangos. When asked how long it took for the two of them to fall in love, she said "not long, when you know, you know." She and George, who was the love of her life, got married in 1958, and they were married for 58 wonderful years. Her family fondly remembers the playful banter between Marianthi and George and their palpable love for one another. Marianthi overcame tremendous hardship in her early years, but went on to live a dynamic and vibrant life, full of joy and laughter. She retired from General Electric in 1995, after 30 years of service. She spent much of her retirement devoting her time to her favorite things: family, gardening and cooking. For Marianthi, cooking was love. She loved to cook and bake, and she loved to share her food with her loved ones. Everything she made was exceptional, but her pitas were legendary. So much so, that she was often offered to be paid to make them for people. She always refused, because for her bringing happiness to someone by sharing her food was enough. She was full of boundless energy, and her family affectionately dubbed her "The Engergizer Bunny." She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and afghans for her family, as well as her pouring herself into caring for her extensive and impressive garden, flowers and landscaping. She provided her family with at least one tomato plant and potted basil of their own at the beginning of every summer. She embraced her Macedonian heritage, and shared her love of Macedonian dancing by teaching her grandchildren to dance in her living room, and dancing every chance she had. Of all the moms and all the babas in the world, we are lucky that she was ours. She is survived by her daughters Rose (Kevan) Davis, Tina (Daryl) Evans; grandchildren Christina Mitson, Andrew (Samantha) Evans, Nathan Davis and Zachary Davis; great-grandchildren Elena Mitson, Christopher Mitson, Madeline Evans and Theodore Evans; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her best friend, surrogate sister, and lifelong confidante Eleni (George) Rongos. Marianthi was proceeded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Boris and Stefanka; her siblings, Helen (Nick) Kostovski and Tom (Tina) Borshovou of Toronto, and Arden Borshoff of Milwaukee.
