Lowell Russell McDaniel Jr., known as “Russ” to friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 84.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Ruth Mary McDaniel (Vogt), and his son Michael Wayne McDaniel, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
Russ is survived by his three sons: Ron (Jennifer) McDaniel of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Dave (Pam) McDaniel and Steve (Rachel) McDaniel, both of Fort Wayne.
In the 1960s, Russ proudly served eight years in the United States Air Force, where he worked as a radar operator and avionics technician.
After completing his service, Russ built a long career as a truck driver, a profession that suited his independent personality and his love of the open road. He took pride in the miles he logged and his ability to handle the challenges and demands of a Trucker’s life.
Beyond his work, Russ was a passionate country music lover, singer, and songwriter. Music was his creative outlet and his way of sharing pieces of himself with the world. His album ‘Songs From The Sleeper’ and other recordings can be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music.
Russ will be remembered for his bold spirit, his unwavering resilience, and the songs and stories he leaves behind.
