Obituary

Lisa Jo (Kern) Quirk, 66, left her loving family on Friday March 28, 2025 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Lisa was born February 2, 1959 in Muncie, Indiana. A 1977 graduate of Muncie Central High School, Lisa spent her younger years on the tennis court or in the pool, where she was an avid swimmer and lifeguard. Her summers were filled with joy at Indiana's Lake Webster where she was an accomplished member of the North Webster Ski Bees with impressive trick ski and jumping abilities.

Following her graduation from Indiana University Bloomington with a B.A. in Fine Arts (Textiles), Lisa worked in Chicago as a fabric designer and colorist for Sansappelle, a company well known for hand-painted designer apparel.

Wishing for more career growth, Lisa relocated to New York City where she was hired by various reputable design houses, including Ametex / Robert Allen, P/Kaufmann (acquired Anju / Woodridge), Scalamandre, and Iconix. She designed prints, wovens, wallpapers, bedding, and fabrics for home furnishings that were sold nationwide. In her most recent role at Iconix, she designed textiles for popular home brands including Waverly, Charisma, Fieldcrest, Royal Velvet, and Cannon.

It was in New York that Lisa met and married Dennis Michael Quirk of Brooklyn. The couple eventually relocated to Wilton, Connecticut where they raised their much loved children: Sarah June Quirk and Devin Thomas Quirk.

Lisa had several entrepreneurial ventures, including Old Lake Textiles and Lisa Quirk Textiles. Her many creative talents included sewing, embroidery, painting, crafting, blanket-making, hand-painted floorcloths, and textile design. As a designer, she had a passion for color.

Lisa's loves were her beloved children, her pets, lake life, travel, and creating a beautiful and aesthetic world to live in. She will be remembered for her open heart, her generosity to all, and her quick wit.

Lisa was preceded in death by Dennis Quirk and her parents, Gene B. Kern and June G. (Gruwell) Kern. She is survived by her beloved children, Sarah and Devin, and son-in-law Brian Hornbecker, her siblings Debra Kern of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Julie Troyka of Saint George, Utah, and Gary Kern (wife Kelli) of Aurora, Ohio, as well as her nieces and nephews.

No funeral service will be held. In honor of Lisa's life, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her name: https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/campaign/Lisa-Quirk. Cards of condolences can be sent to her sister Debra at 4820 Oak Mast Trail, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, and will be shared with family.
