Linda Cade Haber

Born February 18,1950

Died September 30, 2025

Linda, second oldest of 4 sisters, was born in Port Royal, Texas and grew up in Mississippi. She graduated from Picayune Memorial High School and went on to study nursing at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD gaining her license as a Registered Nurse (RN).  Linda worked for a summer at Hopkins after graduating in 1970, then at the University of North Carolina before furthering her education at Duke University (BSN), UNC/Chapel Hill (MSN) and I.U./Indianapolis (Ph.D.).  While at I.U., she was awarded the Isabel Hampton Robb Scholarship for "Outstanding Leadership in Clinical Practice."  Linda assumed many diverse roles during her nursing career that included as an instructor at Lutheran Hospital Nursing School, IPFW and I.U./South Bend; as a counselor in a private family practice; as a Clinical Specialist at the VA Hospital in Marion where she counseled WW II veterans while also attending to administrative duties.  Over time, Linda also wrote a variety of research papers, some alone and some in collaboration with others.  However, throughout her varied professional career, Linda remained, at base, a Johns Hopkins educated, clinical nurse.

Linda retired from the VA in 2010. Subsequently, she enjoyed further travels in England, Ireland (where she had dual citizenship), and France.  There, she visited friends and relatives and as many art exhibits as she could find. She loved all things beautiful and was on a constant search for exhibits to see. Linda had a large collection of books about art and art history. She was especially enamored with the Impressionists' paintings, with Monet's "Waterlilies" her favorite.  Also, she attended many local concerts and art exhibits.

While she liked food of many kinds, Linda did have a sweet tooth.  She kept her "stash" in the library,  and could frequently be found reading a book, nibbling on her favorite (orange) jelly, or working on a small handwork volunteer project such as making cards for the home bound.

Linda leaves behind her beloved husband, Larry; sisters Sandra Knapton of Canoga Park, CA; Patricia Parris of Jackson, MS; and Sheral Cade of Dallas, TX. as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and loyal Hopkins classmates. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Vardaman and Bridget (Lavelle) Cade and parents in-law David and Mae (Isard) Haber.  She will be fondly remembered.

In accord with Linda's wishes, gifts or contributions are sought to support nursing scholarships at either the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, or the Nurses Education Fund (NEF).
