Leonard R. Locher, 87, passed peacefully into his Savior's arms on July 19, 2018. Leonard was born May 21, 1931 in Oneida, KS to the late Andrew and Nettie Locher. He graduated from Bern High School in 1949. In 1952, He was drafted for the Korean War. He then volunteered for the US Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, Leonard met and married his wife Christine Locher nee Dapper in 1953. Leonard served his country as an Orderly for the Commanding General of the 3rd Marine Division until his release in 1954. Leonard and Christine lived for a short time in Sabetha, KS then moved back to California where they raised their family. Leonard served as a city counselman for the City of Maywood from 1969-1971 and served one year as Mayor. He then became the City Clerk, which evolved into the City Administrator for the city of Maywood for 24 years, retiring in 1992. Leonard was active in the Lion's International serving on many levels, but his most humbling moment was being elected as Governor of District 4-L2 from 1983-1984. Leonard was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was baptized December 31, 1961. Surviving are his wife, Christine; his children, Ronald (Kathy) Locher, and Wendy (Jason) Williamson; grandchildren, Brock (Lydia) Williamson, and Chelsea Williamson; two sisters, Clarine (Dick) McConnell, and Lois Slack. He was preceded in death by his son, Leonard John Locher; and 3 sisters, Ruth Down, Winifred Turner, and Infant Lennis Locher. Service is 10:30 am, on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Leo Apostolic Christian Church, 11714 Grabill Rd, Leo, IN, with calling one hour prior.
