Obituary
Leland J. Helmuth, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Thursday, August 22, 2024. He was born in Goshen, IN to the late Raymond and Ida Helmuth.
After Leland married Connie in 1970, they moved to Colorado for several years where they enjoyed motorcycle rides in the mountains. They eventually moved back to Eby Road just outside of Fort Wayne, where Leland built his first house entirely by himself (with the help of a couple friends from where he worked at the time, Mutual Security). Leland was a beloved leader at his job of 28 years at SIRVA. As a testimony of his sweet soul, he would gather weekly (after retirement) with many of the men and women he worked with at the Perk coffee shop, sitting around the table, enjoying each other's friendship.
Leland was a master at fixing anything. But what made him an amazing servant was his willingness to drop everything he was doing to help anyone who asked. Countless people over the years would drop by his house for help with a vehicle or he was invited into innumerable homes to fix a mechanical problem. He truly lived an "other-centered" life.
He loved watching and supporting his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He was their greatest fan, always encouraging them and reminding them how loved they are by him and Jesus.
Surviving are his children, Kristi (Matt) Leininger, Jeremy (Amy) Helmuth, Kari (Jeff) Wike, Heidi (Ryan) Lough; grandchildren, Seth, Lily, Noah, Sadie, Ellie, Caleb, Elena, Jude, Charlotte, Aubrey, Anna, Austin, Makayla; siblings, Edna (Tom) VanDiepenbos, Tony Helmuth, Darlene Mishler, Shirley Lewis.
Leland was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Connie Helmuth in 2022.
Service is 11 am, Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Central Ministries, 5801 Schwartz Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also 5 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the church.
