Obituary

Lavada Lillian Stieglitz,100, peacefully died on Friday, January 31, 2025, at The Cedars in Leo, Indiana, where she was lovingly cared for in the last years of her life. She was born September 10, 1924 to George H., Sr. and Elizabeth (Schwartz) Stieglitz in McLean County, IL.

God gifted Lavada with a cheerful spirit, and she will always be remembered as having the joy of the Lord as her strength. She was a member of the Leo Apostolic Christian Church and faithfully served in many different roles, not the least being a constant encourager. She was also a member of the Cedar’s Auxiliary and volunteered at the Dove’s Nest.

She was a faithful sister to her siblings and a doting aunt to many nieces and nephews. Since she lived “on the farm” until later in life, she was a sweet presence that accompanied visiting the “homeplace.” She helped host innumerable family dinners and is remembered for her taffy pulls and Buckeye candies. She read countless children’s books and furnished a toy room that delighted all the younger family members. Lavada wanted every member of the family to feel welcomed and loved.

She loved to read and travel, accompanying her sister Imogene on many excursions, including Alaska and Europe. Every winter she spent a couple of weeks in Florida, enjoying the sunshine and collecting shells. Lavada loved crafts and creating with her hands.

She worked at General Electric and Grabill Bank before transitioning to her brother Marvin’s feed mill, Milan Center Feed and Grain, from which she retired after many years of service.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Karen Roebel, Mark Stieglitz, Tom Stieglitz, Jim Stieglitz, Jerry Stieglitz, Sue Gasser, Jeff Stieglitz, Steve Stieglitz, Marcia Koch, Greg Stieglitz, Beth Stieglitz, Lynn Stieglitz, Renee Herrmann, Marlise Stieglitz, Dave Stieglitz, Mike Stieglitz, Gary Stieglitz, Matthew Stieglitz, Carla Schultz, Connie Moeschberger; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, George Sr. and Elizabeth (Schwartz) Stieglitz; brothers, Harold, Russel, Morris, Oliver, Marvin, and George Jr; sisters, Lenora M. Sorg, Eleanor Strahm, and Imogene Stieglitz; nephews, Rick Stieglitz, Eddie Stoller, Larry Stieglitz; and nieces, Vonnie Marcum, Shirley Allen, Rosanna Etgen, and Vivian Richardson.
