Kerrwin Jay "KJ" Short, 65, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday October 26, 2023. KJ was born on March 28, 1958, in Fort Wayne to Laurel J and Wyona (Meyer) Short. He worked for over 20 years at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, followed by American Graphic Systems, and in later years Fedex.
From an early age, KJ developed a strong love for sports. Growing up, he could often be found playing baseball with friends in the spring, and trying to convince his sisters to be hockey goalies for games in the winter. This love of sports continued throughout his life as he played travel hockey and college baseball at IU on scholarship.
More than an athlete, KJ was a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, and a grandfather. He loved the Lord and those who had the privilege to know him knew you could never have a stronger supporter and friend. KJ brought a kindness and humor to every interaction that will be sorely missed.
Along with his parents, KJ is survived by his beloved daughter, Casey (Cody) Krueger; his three sisters, Denise Short, Doreen (Erick) Eastes, and Sandy (the late Phillip) Glines; his nephew, Darren Glines; his nieces, Madison (Andrew) Blake, Natalie Eastes, Samantha Eastes, and Roma Eastes; his aunts Wanda Meyer, Maralyn Barger, and Joyce Robarge; his uncle, Bob Carter; and his cherished grandson, Caleb Krueger.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Harry and Mildred (Hertel) Meyer; his paternal grandparents Laurel A and Marjorie (Beck) Short; his aunts LaVonne Carter, Dorothy (Pete) Lee; and his uncle Dale (Carole) Meyer.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at FairHaven Funeral Home (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825) at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
