Kent Stapleton, 86, passed away on June 6, 2024. Kent was born on February 26, 1938 to the late Wayne and Margaret (Bitz) Stapleton in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Kent grew up in several communities such as Butler, IN; Tuscon, AZ; Roll, IN; New Haven, IN, and spent most of his life in Fort Wayne.
As a career home builder, Kent crafted many homes that will continue to protect families for many years. His hobbies and passions were vast and included rehabbing homes after disasters with Cup of Cold Water, concrete, trim and finish work, collecting baseball cards, restoring American classic cars & Ford tractors, sports, mountain, & waterfall photography, listening to oldies music, fishing for walleye in northern Ontario, painting landscapes, drawing, professional ice skate sharpener, enjoying lunches with construction buddies at Wendy's on Dupont, playing golf, Leo High School sports, Cleveland baseball, IU basketball, Komet hockey, travelling with his wife, and watching all the sports that his grandkids played.
Kent and Maryellen met at Brookside Church in 1971, served and worshipped at Brookside, Grabill Missionary, and most recently at Pathway Community Church. They spent many summers at Lake Wawasee in their cottage on the channel, and traveled to many skate clubs around the US while Sheri trained in figure skating.
He is preceded in death by his parents and older brother Doug Stapleton.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maryellen (Scherreik) Stapleton; his sister, Judy Hubbart; his daughter, Sheri (Brian) Beall, and 4 grandchildren: Noah, Gideon, AnnaLynn, and EllaJane.
Friends and family calling will be Saturday June 29 from 10 AM-12 PM at Pathway Community Church (1010 Carroll Road Fort Wayne IN 46845). Funeral service will be at 12 PM. Private burial at a later date with family.
Preferred memorials are to the True Vine Ministry at Pathway Community Church supporting adoption. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted to make arrangements.
