Obituary

Kenneth W. Moilanen, 96, of Fort Wayne, passed away on April 20, 2025. He was born on August 22, 1928, in Lakota, North Dakota. Ken was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and the Building Committee. He was an electrical contractor for 60 years and was the president of the Fort Wayne Electrical Contractors Association for many years. Apart from work, Ken enjoyed raising/showing horses, and was a musician who played in the governor's band in North Dakota, and the Fort Wayne community band for several years. He passed on his love of music and compassion for animals to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman who loved to fish in Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota. He had a major passion for genealogy and learning about his family's history. He was bilingual in English and Finnish and even researched Finnish heritage back to the 1500's and would translate the information into English. Ken is survived by his daughters, Diana Moilanen of Cleveland, Lila (Dave) Pufahl of Fort Wayne; son, William Moilanen of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Dolores Moilanen; son, Richard Moilanen; 8 brothers; and 1 sister.
